Own the performance layer that makes Wiktis fast at scale. You'll architect background job systems, implement caching strategies, optimise API response times, and build the queue infrastructure that handles thousands of concurrent exhibitor operations without breaking a sweat. This is a systems-level role for engineers who think in P99 latencies, cache invalidation strategies, and worker pool configurations.

Responsibilities:

Design and implement background job architectures using BullMQ, Redis queues, or similar systems
Build priority queue systems for time-sensitive operations (payment processing, notification dispatch, report generation)
Implement multi-layer caching strategies: Redis, CDN edge caching, and in-memory application caches
Optimise API endpoint performance through query analysis, N+1 elimination, and response payload optimisation
Configure rate limiting, circuit breakers, and backpressure mechanisms for system resilience
Instrument performance monitoring: custom metrics, distributed tracing, and P95/P99 latency tracking
Design retry logic, dead letter queues, and failure recovery patterns for background jobs
Implement cache invalidation strategies that balance consistency with performance
Build worker scaling systems that auto-adjust to queue depth and processing load
Conduct load testing and capacity planning for traffic spikes during major exhibitions

Qualifications:

Deep experience with job queue systems: BullMQ, Sidekiq, Celery, or AWS SQS
Expert knowledge of Redis: data structures, pub/sub, Lua scripting, and cluster configuration
Strong understanding of caching patterns: cache-aside, write-through, TTL strategies, and invalidation
Proficiency with Node.js or Python backend development at scale
Experience with observability tools: Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
Understanding of distributed systems concepts: eventual consistency, idempotency, and at-least-once delivery
Knowledge of database performance: query optimisation, connection pooling, and read replicas
Experience with load testing tools: k6, Artillery, Locust, or JMeter

Experience with event-driven architectures and message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
Knowledge of edge computing and CDN configuration (Cloudflare Workers, Vercel Edge)
Background in high-traffic SaaS platforms or real-time systems
Familiarity with Kubernetes autoscaling and container orchestration
Experience with serverless queue processing (AWS Lambda, Vercel Functions)
Understanding of cost optimisation for cloud compute and caching infrastructure
